This page gives information on Approved Stallions on the Irish Horse Register standing in Northern Ireland. In general there are three types of stallion classification within the Irish Horse Register (IHR)
Approved
S1 Section/Supplementary 1
S2 Section/Supplementary 2

Irish Sport Horse Classification

Approved
Stallions included in this section have: -

• passed performance test,
• passed an official veterinary examination ,
• passed a visual examination for conformation and movement,
• established studbook pedigree.

(Due allowance is made for high performance stallions and the sires of high performers.)
S1 Section /Supplementary 1
Stallions which do not qualify for fully approved status on inspection may achieve "Section/Supplementary 1" stallion status provided that they have: -

• established studbook pedigree,
• passed an official veterinary examination

S2 Section / Supplementary 2
Stallions with established pedigree and which do not pass the veterinary examination may be classified as "Section/Supplementary 2".
Exception:

• Stallions without established pedigree shall be eligible for inspection and given "Supplementary 2" status provided they pass the veterinary examination and are of suitable breed type for the sport horse sector.
• A stallion that does not meet the above pedigree and veterinary requirements may be accommodated in the "Supplementary 2" section on the basis of high performance in competition, provided he is of suitable breed type.

The Irish Sport Horse Stallion Book of Approved stallions.
The Irish Sport Horse Stallion book of Approved stallions is available free of charge to NIHB members by collection at the NIHB office by arrangement or at the Horse Sport Ireland stand during Dublin Horse Show week by using their voucher. Stallion books can be posted out using the voucher plus £7 p&p.
