These competitions are for three-year-old horses and ponies and aims to identify young performance horses and ponies that may be suitable for the sport horse/ pony industry.


The competitions are open to any three-year-old horse/pony that is registered in a studbook that has been approved by the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses.


Passports MUST be available for inspection at the competitions.


Identification checked will be carried out by an NIHB appointed Veterinary Surgeon at the final.


Prize money will not be paid to those that do not meet the registration requirements.


Animals will be scored out of 100, in the following breakdown:

Conformation 20
Canter 20
Technique 20
Scope 20
Reflexes 10
Attitude 10



Entries will be managed by each of the hosting venues, as part of the entry the passport number of the Horse will also be recorded.


10 horses will qualify for each of the qualifier events for the final, whilst 5 ponies will also qualify.


The winner of each of the qualifiers will be presented with a rug and rosette.


Rosettes will be awarded to all qualifying horses and ponies


No prizemoney will be awarded at the qualifiers.


In the event of a tie, the horse with the highest score for ‘Technique’ will be the winner.


Horses may be called back into the arena to jump a bigger fence before the final    adjudication at the judge’s discretion.




Prizemoney will be paid at the final only, and will be awarded to 6th place; each place will receive:

All entries will be managed by the Northern Ireland Horse Board, exhibitors may enter online using the Northern Ireland Horse Board website (www.nihorseboard.org), by postal entry form or by presenting to the NIHB office during opening times.


Entries will close 5 days before the event.  This is to facilitate validation of entries and the production of event programmes.

All qualifying horses and ponies will receive a qualifier’s pack containing their final entry form and 2 passes to the final on Saturday 15th October at Castle Irvine, Necarne Castle, Irvinestown.

Withdrawals and Refunds

Refunds (50% of entry fee) will be given at the discretion of the organisers and must be received no later than 48 hours before the event. Any withdrawals after this time will forfeit their entry fee.
